Historical Review of Tangocool!
From the very beginning of Tango, there have always been dances (milongas, clubs, etc.) and practices, where tango dancers would gather to develop new variations and refine their dancing. For many years, this concept of practice was lost, but today it has been revived, gaining recognition as a movement both locally and globally.
Today, Tangocool has become the meeting point for the new generations of tango dancers from Buenos Aires and around the world. Every Friday, they start the night gathering with friends and dancing non-stop to Tango, alternative music, and folklore in a warm and friendly environment. (See Video)
The beginning of this movement emerged from the need of a group of dancers to meet, practice, and develop new variations in Tango. For several months, 10 couples met in a dance hall to exchange concepts and create new movements and ways of dancing.
Later, we felt it would be good to open the proposal to more people. This led to the creation of monthly Fiestas Tangueras at a venue known as Galpón de Sol, where not only Tango was danced, but also shows of all kinds were presented, such as Break-Tango, contemporary dance, acrobatics, and live music.
Additionally, once a week, we started an open experimental practice (See Video), which gradually attracted more people until it became what is now Tangocool. However, due to the Cromañón Tragedy, the venue was shut down, and we had to find a new space for the project, which led us to Club Villa Malcolm.
The new location and the characteristics of the venue encouraged new people to participate in the practices, whether as attendees or performers, as many emerging Tango figures have showcased their talent here—and continue to do so. It is an open space for artistic and cultural promotion. (See upcoming shows)
Due to the growing interest, many people with less dance experience started to join. That’s why we decided to offer group classes, using our own pedagogical method. To achieve better results, courses are divided into three levels: Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced. (See our method)
Tangocool is a practice with distinctive characteristics and has become the breeding ground for new practices constantly emerging in Buenos Aires and worldwide. Its pillars are: great music, excellent shows, and an atmosphere set up like a house party, creating a friendly environment where people can dance and meet new friends. (See past shows)
